Gemma Camlin
Integrative Arts Psychotherapist
Life can feel difficult at times, especially during periods of change, when what once felt steady and secure no longer does. You may be feeling lost, stuck, or alone, or perhaps you’ve started to notice patterns in your thoughts or behaviours that are affecting how you feel about yourself or how you connect with others. Reaching out for support is a courageous step. Together, we can work collaboratively, at your pace, to deepen understanding and move towards a more fulfilling and connected way of being.
My Experience
I have experience supporting those with anxiety, low mood, relational issues, self-esteem, questions around gender and sexuality, neurodivergence, trauma, and complex needs. Alongside this, I have supported people who are living with a terminal illness or who are struggling to make sense of a family member’s or loved one’s diagnosis.
I have worked across the NHS, charities, and in private practice, both one-to-one with clients and in group settings.
I offer psychotherapy in English, on a one-to-one basis, with adults.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked as a primary teacher. Alongside my psychotherapeutic practice, I continue to support children and their families as they navigate challenging educational transitions.
My Approach
I work as both an Integrative Psychotherapist and an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist, placing the relationship between us at the heart of our work together.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including humanistic and person-centred, as well as psychodynamic and Jungian. Using the arts and creativity to accompany our dialogue, whether through clay, drawing, or working with metaphors and symbols, can help to express and explore parts of the self that might be hard to put into words. You do not need to be an artist or be ‘good’ at art to explore creatively in sessions; this is an additional resource that can help hold and gently explore experiences and feelings, as well as encourage a sense of playfulness that is natural and instinctive in all of us.
As a practitioner, I am committed to recognising and addressing the aspects of our identities. Culture, race, gender, sexuality, class, alongside other identity markers, profoundly shape us and are welcomed and encouraged to be spoken about in the therapeutic work.
Accreditations
I am a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). I abide by the codes of ethics and codes of practice of both governing bodies.
