Dr Sandra Tapie
Existential Psychotherapist & Supervisor
We all face challenges in our lives, which at times, may feel overwhelming or too difficult to cope with. Whether you would like support for a specific issue, feel the need to make changes in your life or simply seek personal development, counselling offers a safe space for you to share your feelings and thoughts. Together we will look at your situation; I will help you explore and clarify your issues and experiences. I aim to create an environment where you can find your own solutions and direction.
My experience
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. I currently practice privately in Shoreditch and Bethnal Green. Previously I have worked in various counselling settings including the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust where I provided therapy to patients with eating disorders, several drug and alcohol services in Hackney, GP practices and private organisations. This has allowed me to meet and work with people facing a wide range of difficulties.
I am particularly experienced in supporting those struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, gender and sexuality related issues, work place issues and addiction. I have a special interest in supporting people who are in the midst of a crisis of values and beliefs, who feel a lack of direction or who are going through a transition in their live, whether personal or professional.
I offer counselling in English and in French.
My approach
My training is in Existential Psychotherapy. Existential therapy is an approach which is first and foremost philosophical; its focus is on making sense of life and human existence. I find this form of therapy effective in helping my clients live more meaningfully and purposefully. Each client’s situation is unique and I tailor my approach based on individual needs. This may involve drawing from other modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approach, mindfulness and relaxation. Beyond the therapeutic modality I believe that the most important factor for effective therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. It is within an authentic, open and non-judgemental relationship that changes can occur.
Accreditations
I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a member of the British Psychological Society (MBPS); I abide by both codes of ethics and codes of practice.
